Manufacturing Director (m/w/d)

Wir suchen für unseren Kunden WuXi Biologics am Standort Wuppertal (auf dem Bayer-Gelände) einen Manufacturing Director (m/w/d).

WuXi Biologics, eines der drei weltweit größten Unternehmen mit einer führenden Open-Access-Technologieplattform für die Entdeckung, Entwicklung und Herstellung von Biologika. Zur Ergänzung der bestehenden Produktionskapazitäten übernimmt WuXi Biologics den Betrieb einiger Produktionsanlagen der Bayer AG in Leverkusen und in Wuppertal für die Herstellung von Arzneimittelendprodukten.

Principle Job Responsibilities: 

  • Play an integral role in the strategy and business planning processes, ensuring cross functional collaboration and leadership execution
  • Extensive liaison with counterparts and business leaders in WuXi Biologics corporate to include the highest level of professional representation of the local site Manufacturing organisation
  • Develop the overall Manufacturing strategy aligned with the facility’s strategic business plans and global Manufacturing strategy
  • Develop and implement the strategic objectives for the Manufacturing team in collaboration with the Wuppertal Site Head and relevant colleagues within the WuXi organisation
  • Provide leadership and direction for all site production activities during the construction phase and beyond (safety, supply planning,  quality, cost, inventory and stock management, resource allocation and re-prioritisation of activities as needed)
  • Manage the interface between Wuppertal site and WuXi corporate Manufacturing team, ensuring that the objectives of the Wuppertal site’s team are aligned and delivered in accordance with the wider corporate objectives
  • Build and develop a high performing manufacturing management team, including the attraction, development and retention of talent
  • Provide direction to the Manufacturing team with regard to  achieving customer service requirements within defined timelines
  • Lead the Manufacturing team to ensure best value is achieved by minimising the working capital within the supply and by driving lean cGMP manufacturing practices where possible
  • Identify and drive opportunities to achieve optimal and cost effective productivity for the facility
  • Lead the formulation and execution of site production plans to deliver in line with forecasts and strategic objectives
  • Collaborate with other members of the leadership team to plan requirements for future capacity in line with strategic objectives, cost efficiencies and delivery on new business opportunities
  • Ensure appropriate processes and procedures are in place to enable the Manufacturing team  to allocate resources and reprioritise production activities  as needed
  • Lead the implementation of cost improvement activities and the outsourcing of production steps as required
  • Ensure the efficient and safe execution of site production plans and drive process robustness to reduce deviations in Manufacturing
  • Develop overall strategies to manage supplier relationships and ensure raw material stock levels are in place and aligned with supply chain, production planning and safety best practice procedures for the site
  • Provide direction and expertise on complex compliance issues and ensure the Manufacturing team operates in accordance with relevant regulatory standards of best practice and Environmental Health & Safety
  • Interface with Regulatory bodies as required, representing the site to relevant authorities and regulatory inspectors in matters relating to production management, quality, safety and risk
  • Ensure adherence to all safety and quality standards as the relate to Manufacturing, i.e. continuous improvement regarding equipment and site safety

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree qualified in relevant manufacturing/life sciences discipline with a masters qualification being beneficial
  • More than 20 years of experience in biological manufacturing environment Ideally, experienced in establishing a Manufacturing function and team in a ‘greenfield’ context of similar size and scale.
  • Extensive experience of relevant Manufacturing processes and systems in a highly regulated manufacturing environment
  • Experienced in a range of Manufacturing disciplines including Upstream & Downstream Processing, Manufacturing Technology, Maintenance and Project Management
  • Demonstrable ability to influence senior managers, build strong relationships and drive a global Manufacturing strategy
  • Site leadership team experience in driving functional and cross function team excellence/business performance
  • A strong leadership capacity within a fast paced commercially focused manufacturing facility in the pharmaceutical industry while setting the highest professional standards
  • Experience of working within a highly regulated multinational contract manufactirign environment
  • A strong work ethic with a proven track record identifying continuous improvement opportunities within the Manufacturing function and beyond
  • Excellent strategic/business planning, budgeting and reporting experience
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills with ability to handle multiple projects at once
  • Excellent strategic decision making capabilities and business acumen/commercial awareness
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel as required international
